Police in Porirua are investigating an aggravated robbery at a Shosha vape shop on Lyttelton Avenue on Saturday 3rd April.

At about 1:25pm a male holding a knife entered the store and threw a black bag over the counter, demanding cash. He picked up a pair of scissors from the counter and threatened the staff that if they didn’t comply, he could harm them.

The three customers present hid in the backroom, while three staff members stayed behind the counter, one of whom put money in the bag for the male.

Police have determined from CCTV footage that the male has walked from McKillop Street, through a carpark onto Champion Street, along Mungavin Avenue, under the subway into the eastern carpark of the Porirua Train Station, onto Station Road and onto Lyttelton Avenue.

The male then ran back to the Porirua Train Station, under the subway, and back through the northern end of the train station carpark towards Mepham Place. Police say the male’s choice of route to and from Shosha suggests he knows the area well.

Police say the male would have had an unusual amount of cash over the Easter break.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Solid build
  • 182cm – 190cm; 6’0” – 6’3”

The suspect was wearing a blue hoody, blue surgical facemask, black shorts with white stripes down the sides, black sneakers and a black backpack.

This ordeal has had a negative lasting impact on all those who witnessed the incident. Porirua Police need to hear from anyone who may be able to help them solve this case.
