Police are investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred at a restaurant in Christchurch last month.

The robbery happened at Armadillo’s Bar & Restaurant on Ensign Street in Halswell on Sunday 25th September.

A silver car with two people inside pulled up outside the front of the restaurant, and the driver exited the vehicle with a red supermarket bag. He entered the front door and pulled a firearm out of the bag. When he noticed one of the staff members walking into the kitchen he got startled and corralled the three staff members towards the till while pointing the gun at them. The staff did what they were told and transferred the cash from both tills into the bag for the male. He then ordered the staff into the pokie room and threatened to shoot them if they came out. He exited the restaurant calmly, and drove away in the car.

The staff members are still traumatised from the event, and would like the suspect held accountable for his actions.

The suspect is described as:

Male in his 30’s

Solid build

Police hope someone will recognise the male from the CCTV footage and can help with their enquiries.

The passenger in the car was handed the bag of money and put it on the floor in front of him. There is a chance someone has overheard the two talking about the event, and police would like to hear from anyone who may have overheard any conversation.

A vehicle matching the description of the one used was captured on petrol station CCTV footage close to the time of the robbery. Police are not saying the vehicle is linked to the robbery, but they would like to speak to the male who exited the vehicle at the petrol station or anyone who recognises him.
