Police in North Shore are investigating an alleged aggravated robbery where a worker was confronted with a machete at a store on Tonkin Drive, Sunnynook, on Friday 19th March.

At about 12:35pm, a male has come out of Lyford Crescent, which comes off Tonkin Drive, and walked around the corner and calmly into the store. Once inside the man has gone around the back and pulled out a large machete and presented it at the shop keeper before passing her a bag and demanded she put the till money in it. The terrified shopkeeper complied, and the male took the bag and walked out of the store, back down Lyford Crescent towards the school where he is lost from sight. There is a walkway which runs into Lyford Park so police believe he could have gone through the park.

The suspect described as:

  • Male
  • Heavy build
  • Thin bridge nose
  • Big thighs and large through the stomach area
  • High-pitched voice
  • Carrying a black Adidas backpack with the three white stripes down the length of the back and the Adidas logo on the shoulders
  • Armed with a 50cm long machete that has no grip or handle on it

This incident has left the shopkeeper traumatised and still impacts her in her day to day life, identifying the male will go a long way in helping the victim heal.

North Shore Police would like to hear from anyone who may be able to assist them with this case.
