Police are investigating two petrol station aggravated robberies that occurred in South Auckland within two weeks of each other.

The Caltex service station on the corner of Savill Drive and Massey Road in Mangere was the location of two aggravated robberies in March.

At about 12.50am on Wednesday 3rd March two males approached the night pay window with two large rocks. The male attendant who was working at the time saw them approaching so he went into the safe room out the back.

The two suspects threw the rocks with such force they broke the window and climbed inside, where they started unloading cigarettes into their bags. They took their time and got as many cigarettes as possible, before jumping back out the night pay window, where security footage has captured them turning right, back onto Savill Drive. It is not known where they went from there.

Thirteen days later at about 1.50am on Tuesday 16th March, three males approached the night pay window, one with a large rock, and another armed with a baseball bat.

They smashed the night pay window, and the attendant hid in a safe place. The suspects helped themselves to the cigarettes, and one of them also helped himself to the till. After getting everything they wanted they jumped back out the window, and headed left towards Rosella Road.

Police believe these two aggravated robberies could be linked, based on the way the males entered the store. Both had large rocks on both occasions, and looking at the security images there are similar items in both.

The suspects are described as:

Wednesday 3rd March, 12.50am

  • Male in black hoody and grey pants with Nike shoes, wearing a red/orange duffle bag over his shoulder, and wearing gloves or socks on his hands
  • Male in black hoody, black pants, Nike shoes with a tick that goes all the way round the shoe, wearing a grey duffle bag with distinctive blue gloves with a NY Yankees logo on them

In the second aggravated robbery, Tuesday 16th March, 1.50am

  • Similar distinctive gloves, duffle bag, and Nike shoes are seen
  • The third suspect is seen wearing a blue and yellow ice hockey-style jersey, and he has his hood up
  • A distinctive baseball bat was recovered from Rosella Road. It is made from silver aluminium with black tape wrapped around the handle. It appears to be a Louisville Slugger brand

Police are appealing to the public to help identify the suspects captured on CCTV, and ask that anyone who has any information or recognises the distinctive items involved in the aggravated robberies to come forward.
