Case 2: Featured Case - Durham Street Home Invasion, Porirua
On the 19th of November, 2021 at 4:30am a woman was asleep in the downstairs area of her home when she was woken up by someone knocking on her door. She looked out the window and saw a man she believed to be her cousin. When she went to let him in the front door she realised it was not her cousin and he propositioned her for sex. She got him out of the house, locked the door and went back to sleep.
She was again disturbed by banging on the window and loud noises coming from the front door. She got up and found the man has forced his way into her home. She has gone to confront him, expecting to be able to remove him from her house for a second time, but he has struck her repeatedly to the face and body. The victim has fought to defend herself in this brutal attack, scratching and biting at the suspect. The attack only stops when the victim’s young child comes down the stairs and interrupts the attacker. The woman has followed the male out of the house and watched him drive away in a dark Toyota Hilux with a canopy.
