Police in the Hutt Valley need your help with their homicide investigation following the death of 52-year-old Craig McKelvie.

On Friday, 14 October just before 10pm, 52-year-old Craig McKelvie was violently attacked after what is believed to be an altercation in Mason Street, Moera, Lower Hutt. Craig sought help from a nearby house but died a short time later in hospital from his serious injuries.

CCTV footage has been used to help piece together some of Craig’s movements before his death. Two vehicles are of interest. It’s believed Craig was in a blue Mitsubishi Outlander that was seen leaving McDonalds, Petone at 9:52pm. It is then seen by shops on Randwick Road where a black Honda Odyssey can be seen only seconds behind it.

The Outlander has stopped on Mason Street and what is believed to be the black Honda Odyssey pulled in behind it. Craig has got out of the Outlander and there has been an altercation in which he received his injuries.  Both vehicles then left the area.  The Outlander drove north on Randwick Road and the Odyssey travelled south, towards Seaview.

Can you help police with the following:

  • Who was in the black 2004 Honda Odyssey JCT923 on 14 October
  • Where did the black 2004 Honda Odyssey JCT923 go immediately after Mason Street on 14 October and its movements on the following days
  • Who was in the blue Mitsubishi Outlander.  Police are not saying the occupants were involved, but may have valuable information
  • Craig’s reasons for being on Mason Street
  • The current location of a single bladed sharp-edged instrument, or knife, which may have been disposed of after Craig received his injuries.

If you have information that will help police and Craig’s family, then police urge you to get in touch now.
