Case 2: Featured Case - Op Presa: Breanna Muriwai Disappearance, Te Horo Beach
Breanna Muriwai’s family have not seen or heard from her in three months and they are desperate for answers.
Breanna was seen on CCTV at Palmerston Liquorland at 11:15am on Saturday 27th August with an acquaintance. She has spent the rest of the day at her friend’s family home in Palmerston North. However, later in the evening she has wanted to return home to Paraparaumu and her friend agreed to take her, leaving late in the evening.
Before leaving the Manawatū, they have picked up another man and then travelled south stopping at Kimberley Reserve near Levin around 12:45am for a short time. From there, they have driven to Ōtaki where one of the men has used Breanna's card at an ATM and withdrawn $250. They've spent some time in Ōtaki and at around 1am, pulled up outside the Hunting and Fishing Store where arrangements have been made to meet another person in Te Horo.
That meeting takes place at 1:20am near Hyde Park on the corner of State Highway 1 and Te Horo Beach Road. Breanna and the two men she travelled south with go to Te Horo Beach Road, parking on the beach access to Sea Road. From here things become a little unclear.
Breanna is reported to have become upset and run off down the beach. She has not been seen or heard from since which is out of character.
Police are appealing for sightings of a Silver Peugot 307:
- Friday 26th August between Wellington and Palmerston North
- Sunday 28th August in the early hours of the morning near Kimberley Reserve, State Highway 1, Ōtaki and around Hyde Park on State Highway 1 near Te Horo Beach
Police are also appealing for sightings of a green Honda Civic which Breanna’s associates swapped into on the morning of Sunday 28th in the same areas.
A handbag and a purple suitcase were located by members of the public at Te Horo Beach. The handbag has been recovered but the suitcase is still missing. Police want to speak to anyone who looked inside it and saw what the contents were, and where the suitcase is now.
