Ten 7 Aotearoa, Episode

16th June 2022

On Monday night, 16 May a male has entered Waitangirua Superstore while staff are cashing up, threatened two staff at gunpoint and demanded they put the money in the bag. He is seen on CCTV footage leaving a vehicle parked on the street, crossing the parking lot and removing a shotgun from the bag. The aggravated robbery, which happened about 9pm, took 14 seconds, and terrified the victims.

The male is described as 170-175 cm tall (5ft 10in), of medium build, wearing dark Canterbury pants, a black hoodie and balaclava, black gloves – possibly gardening ones with yellow branding, and distinctive shoes.

The suspect’s voice is captured on the CCTV footage. We need you to listen to the clip (available on the Ten 7 Aotearoa Facebook page and the Wellington Police District Facebook page) and see if you know this person. Another clue is his confident manner, the way he carries himself and his clothing, including distinctive shoes.  The last clue is the light coloured vehicle, possibly a 90s model Mazda Familia, with a black stripe on the sides. The fact he is willing to point a gun at people to get what he wants make it all the more important this suspect is located.
