Police Open Day

Next month, NZ Police will host Open Days across the country and it’s a great chance for the public to come along and see first-hand the different aspects of policing.

“This year, the National Open Day will focus on recruitment, and with over 30 career paths to choose from within Police, there will be plenty of activities and demonstrations to showcase to potential future officers, their families and whanau,” says New Zealand Police Commissioner, Mike Bush.

Open Days will be held on Sunday 11 March, across all 12 Police Districts, as well as at the Royal New Zealand Police College.

“Policing has changed significantly and our National Open Days are a great way for the public to gain an understanding of what a modern Police service looks like,” says Commissioner Bush.

“In support of our current recruitment drive, there will be an information stand at each Open Day event and it’s a great opportunity for anyone interested in joining the Police to come along, talk to our staff, and find out more."

“The public will be able to see and engage with Police officers, Police vehicles and some our specialist groups including Police dogs, Armed Offenders Squad, Search and Rescue, Road Policing and our Bomb Squads. The Eagle Helicopter will be on display in Auckland as well,” says Mr Bush.

People can also engage with NZ Police online, learn about the range of work Police is involved in and find information about the specific Open Day events taking place around the country via

This is the third time Police have held a National Open Day.  Previous events have attracted thousands of people interested in engaging directly with their local cops and learning more about police work.
