Collapse causes traffic chaos

1 min read

Part of a building collapsed onto a car on a busy Auckland road this evening, injuring the driver of at least one car and bringing traffic in the Greenlane area to a standstill.

Police attended the scene on the corner of Greenlane West and Great South Rd - outside MacDonalds - shortly before 6pm and have requested that motorists avoid the area for the next few hours.

Greenlane Rd is down to one lane going west and motorists trying to exit the northbound lanes of the southern motorway at Greenlane will get caught in a jam. However both north and southbound lanes on Great South Rd are now open and traffic is flowing.

Senior Sergeant Ross Barber says the woman driver of the damaged vehicle was taken to Auckland Hospital with moderate injuries shortly after the accident where a partly demolished brick building collapsed onto the road, crushing the passenger side of her car.

Police have requested that Occupational Safety and Health officers attend.
