At about 7.40am this morning, a local 60 year old female was hit by a truck and trailer unit on Hebden Crescent in Lower Hutt.

The female was standing on the edge of the road on the Hebden where it exits on to State Highway Two. This exit is just south of Liverton Road.

While standing on the edge of the road, next to the Armco, a white coloured truck and trailer unit has driven from Hebden Cres and headed south on SH2. It appears that during the turn, the truck or trailer has hooked onto the females backpack and dragged her a short distance before she feel free. It is possible that the truck driver did not realise that his vehicle had struck the female as he did not stop.

Another motorist in a blue coloured truck (with a digger on the back) arrived on the scene and attended to the female. This person left before police arrived and police would like to speak to this person. He is possible called Shane.

A second motorist also arrived and later drove the female to Hutt Hospital before Emergency Services were advised.

The female has suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing surgery at Hutt Hospital.

Police are asking any witnesses to come forward. They especially want to speak to Shane who was driving the blue coloured truck. Can any witnesses please contact the Lower Hutt Road Policing Group on 04 5602606 and leave their details.
