Daylight robbery of security guard

1 min read

An aggravated robbery involving a shotgun and two offenders at the St Luke's Shopping Centre at about 12.45 today netted the robbers about $30,000 cash.

The offenders - one of whom remained in the getaway vehicle throughout the incident - targeted an ADT security guard as he was returning to his van which was parked in the shopping centre's covered carpark near an exit onto St Lukes Road.

Police have recovered the getaway vehicle - a red, four-door Ford Telstar saloon - which was found shortly after the robbery outside an address in nearby Woodside Ave, Mt Albert. It had been set on fire but was only partially burnt when Police found it.

The car had been stolen from Carrington Rd, Mt Albert, on June 7 and was found minutes after the robbery.

The gunman wore a tight fitting black stocking-like mask which had eye and nose holes cut out of it. He is described as about 6 feet tall, of muscular build and he was wearing dark clothes.

Police are appealing for witnesses of either the robbery or the dumping of the car in Woodside Ave to contact the Auckland City Crime Squad on 09 302 6789.
