At 7.15pm tonight, emergency services were called to Naenae Road after a car hit a power pole near the corner of Waiwhetu Road.

The force of the impact was so strong that the concrete power pole was sheared off at the base.

The 32 year old male driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was lucky not to suffer from any injuries. When checked, the driver tested positive for alcohol and will be appearing in the Lower Hutt District Court later on this month charged with Driving with Excess Breath Alcohol and Careless Driving.

This is another case of people drinking alcohol and then driving. We are just lucky this time that no one was seriously injured or killed.
