Three men sought following Wainuiomata home invasion

1 min read

Lower Hutt Police are seeking three men who terrorised an elderly Wainuiomata couple during a robbery in their home in the early hours of today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton, of Lower Hutt Police, said the three balaclava-clad men, armed with baseball bats, broke into the couple’s home, in Hine Street, Wainuiomata just before 5am today, tying them up and stealing a small safe containing cash. A woman, in her 60s, was assaulted and suffered minor injuries. She had been treated by a doctor and was now recovering.

Mr Thornton said the woman’s partner, in his 70s, later managed to get free and call Police. The couple had also been left shaken by their ordeal, and were helping Police with their inquiries, he said.

“We’re appealing for anyone who may have seen vehicles or people acting suspiciously in Hine Street around 5am to come forward. We are determined to catch whoever is responsible for this cowardly act, which was clearly targeted at an older couple in their home.”

Anyone with information can contact Lower Hutt Police on (04) 560 2600, or do so anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
