Vandalism witnesses wanted

1 min read

Police inquiries into the vandalised Jewish graves and headstones today have established the damage must have occurred sometime since Wednesday afternoon.

Police photography section has attended the Karangahape Rd cemetery scene where several graves and headstones were found to have been spray-painted with offensive symbols and abuse although there does not appear to be any structural damage to the graves.

Police are working closely with the Jewish community and Auckland Council, which aims to have the paint removed off all the vandalised surfaces by the end of the day.

Anyone with information about who might be responsible is urged to contact Auckland Police on 302 6400 or e-mail acn@police.govt.nz

Anonymous informants can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
