1 min read

Wellington Police have arrested two people following an aggravated robbery of a central city commercial cleaning premises over the weekend.

Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard says "Early this morning Wellington CIB executed a search warrant on a Waiwhetu address with the support of the Armed Offenders Squad and Hutt Valley Police.

"A 25-year-old male and 22-year-old female have now been charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping and possession of cannabis for supply. Further charges are likely to follow.

"A double-barrelled sawn-off shotgun with ammunition, two other weapons, a quantity of cannabis packaged for sale and stolen property from the cleaning business have all been recovered from the property.

"This was a cowardly and vicious attack on an elderly male and his associate.

"The team of investigators have been relentlessly focussed on identifying all those responsible.

"Today's arrests are a significant step forward for the investigation and I am confident there will be further arrests soon.

"It is particularly pleasing to be able to take the weapon used during the attack out of circulation to prevent further offences being committed", says Detective Senior Sergeant Howard.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information to phone Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000 or to provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
