Overnight Police and the Fire Service were called to two suspected arsons of moped scooters in Brooklyn.

Just after midnight Police were called to the first scooter fire near the entrance to Tanera Park which has spread to a small area of bush.

Detective Sergeant Shane Dye says "The scooter has been completely burnt out and is just a shell. The ownership of the moped scooter has not been able to be determined due to the extensive fire damage".

While on the scene of the first scooter fire, a second scooter was reported as on fire on Mortimer Terrace, only a short distance away from Tanera Park.

This scooter had been moved from the car pad it was parked on and placed between two vehicles on the road a number of houses away.

The fire from the second scooter has spread and extensively damaged two other vehicles.

Detective Sergeant Dye says "Due to the timing of the fires we believe they are connected.

"We are seeking information from anyone who witnessed the arsons or saw any suspicious activity in the area around midnight last night".

Anyone with any information that may assist the investigation should contact the Wellington Central Police Station on (04) 381 2000.
