Aorangi Forest Park Search and Rescue update

1 min read

The 22-year-old man at the centre of a Search and Rescue operation in the Aorangi Forest Park has been found.

Micheal LINDSAY, aged 22 from Upper Hutt, walked out 15 kilometres away from where he became separated from his hunting party.

He has come across power line contractors working at the edge of the Park who have contacted 111.

The man has undergone medical checks at the Masterton Search and Rescue base and has been transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Wairarapa Police and LandSAR had a team of over 50 volunteers and two helicopters, including an Air Force Iroquois, conducting an extensive search of an area around the Kawakawa Hutt.

Inspector Simon Perry says "Police and LandSAR volunteers are very pleased he has been located.

"We would encourage people that are going into the outdoors to utilise personal locator beacons so that search teams can locate them.

"If they become disorientated, but find their way to a hut, they should remain there until help arrives".
