1 min read

Wellington Police have cordoned off a Rodrigo Road property in Kilbirnie and have begun a scene examination today after a 23-year-old male was stabbed at the address last night.

At around 7.00pm last night, two males have approached the address with their faces covered and armed with a knife. They have demanded money and property from the occupants of the address and an altercation has occurred inside the property.

During the struggle one of the occupants has received minor wounds while one of the males who approached the property has received multiple stab wounds.

This male is in a serious but stable condition in Wellington Hospital and underwent surgery last night. Police will interview him once he is in a stable condition and charges are likely.

The four occupants of the downstairs flat were interviewed by Police last night and the other residents of the property are assisting with inquiries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard of the Wellington CIB says "Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the males approaching the property or the vehicle they arrived in".

Anyone with any information should contact Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000.

Information can also be provided anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
