Man in Police custody after Karori stabbing

1 min read

A 22-year-old-man is in Police custody after a 21-year-old man received multiple serious stab wounds at a Burrows Avenue residential property in Karori.

The 22-year-old was being transported to Wellington Hospital by mental health staff when he escaped from the vehicle and ran off. The mental health staff called Police to advise that the man had run off. At almost the same time, Police received a 111 call from the 21-year-old man saying he had been stabbed.

Police responded and located the 22-year-old hiding at a near-by property.

The tight space he was in made it very difficult for officers to detain or communicate with the man. Officers spent some time talking to him and he was able to be taken into custody without any use of force.

The 21-year-old victim is in a serious but stable condition in Wellington Hospital. Police will be looking to interview him to get further details about what has happened once he has received medical treatment.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the 22-year-old man jump out of the car in Karori Road or Burrows Avenue area to call Wellington Police on (04) 381 2000.
