man has been charged and police and ESR staff are clearing an alleged methamphetamine operation in the Belfast area of Christchurch today.
As a result of search warrants executed today police have recovered what is believed to be equipment used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Police Clan Lab and ESR staff are working to clear it. DSS Greg WILLIAMS of the Drug Squad says the scene has been assessed and it is no danger to the public. They hope to complete clearing it by tomorrow.
A 39 year old unemployed man, recently arrived from the north island, was today charged with the possession of methamphetamine for supply. It is likely that there will be further charges.
DSS WILLIAMS says that police are vigilant in cracking down on locals or people from the north who think that the south island is a `soft touch’.
"Because of the attention cooks are receiving from north island police we believe many of these people are considering moving their operations south. We’re going to police this area hard to deter them setting up."
