Attribute to Detective Sergeant Mike Smith

A 28-year-old man has been charged with firearms and drug offences following a search warrant in rural Wairarapa this morning.

The warrant was part of the ongoing investigation into two dogs being shot dead in east Masterton in August.

Three shot guns, a high powered hunting rifle and a significant amount of ammunition was recovered by Police.

The firearms will be forensically tested to see if they are linked to the dog killings.

Detective Sergeant Mike Smith says any incident involving the use of firearms poses an obvious and significant risk to the community and will be taken very seriously.

“This morning we were able to remove a number of firearms from the hands of those who put the community at risk by having them in their possession.”

The man is due to appear in the Masterton District Court on the 14 th of September.
