Auckland man sentenced for Glen Eden fatal hit and run

1 min read

Please attribute to Detective Sergeant Ash Matthews, Waitemata Police.

Police note the sentencing of Zhenghang Yu at the Auckland District Court today after the fatal hit and run in Glen Eden which caused the death of 16-year-old Jacob Pakura earlier this year.

Police and Victim Support are continuing to support Jacob’s family. They have been living any families worst nightmare over the last seven months and we can only hope that today’s sentencing will help provide some degree of closure for them.

I would like to thank the investigation team who worked on this case, it took a lot of work to get to where we are today.

I would especially like to acknowledge the Waitakere community for their assistance in this investigation, it was outstanding and led to the subsequent arrest of the offender.

While it should go without saying, we would remind everyone that it is your responsibility if you are involved in an any kind of accident to always stop and check on the welfare of everyone involved.

Once again, our thoughts remain with Jacob’s family at this time and we will continue to support them moving forward.
