Not so fast: Five’s plans foiled

1 min read

Keen reporting and swift Police action has seen five youths being taken into custody after a vehicle was taken from an address in Bombay on Monday evening.

The theft was reported on Great South Road at around 5.20pm.

Counties Manukau South Area Commander, Inspector Joe Hunter, says shortly after the matter was reported Police sighted the vehicle travelling in the Papakura area.

“The informant provided Police with key details to assist with locating the vehicle in a timely manner.”

At this stage, the Police Eagle helicopter was up over the area, with other units also responding.

“Eagle soon located the vehicle as it travelled southbound through Papakura,” Inspector Hunter says.

“The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Walters Road where all five passengers were taken into custody.”

A 14-year-old male has been arrested and will be appearing in the Manukau Youth Court today, Tuesday 13 February.

Four others, aged between 12 and 16, have been referred to Youth Aid.

“A range of Police resources responded to this incident, in which we have been able to make an arrest without incident,” Inspector Hunter says.

“I would like to acknowledge the quick reporting of the matter, which allowed Police to bring this to a resolution less than an hour after it was reported.”
