Update #2 Crash on Te Anau Milford Highway

The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating a crash on Te Anau Milford Highway, Te Anau Downs, Southland.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 2.55pm.

There has been a collision involving a bus and a car.

When emergency services arrived both vehicles were found to be on fire.

Everyone is out of the passenger bus that was carrying tourists.

Some of the people on the bus were taken to a local medical centre to be assessed for minor injuries.

Other passengers have been picked up by other buses that were nearby.

Police are working to ascertain who was in the car.

Due to the extent of the fire, emergency services have not been able to search the car for occupants.

The road is closed in both directions while investigators examine the scene well into the evening.

The Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit is also investigating.

Police are seeking witnesses to the event.
