UPDATE 2: Search for missing boaties

1 min read

Attributable to Constable Jim Marsh, West Coast Police:

Police hope weather conditions will improve on the West Coast this afternoon to allow the search for two missing boaties to resume.

It is hoped a search helicopter and ground teams, ready in Neils Beach, may get to the area this afternoon. Police remain in contact with the men's families.

The coastline is difficult terrain, due to tides, bluffs, and large boulders.

The vessel has been confirmed as the Wendy J, based in Greymouth. Wreckage is spread over a large area.

The Wendy J got into trouble near Smoothwater Bay on Thursday night, with the alarm raised mid-morning Saturday after a light aircraft spotted wreckage on the shore.

Police want to clarify that the man found on the beach yesterday was located near Teer Creek, about 8km southwest of where the vessel went down, rather than Neils Beach.
