A video clip with tips to help people keep their homes safe from burglars is now available on the Police website.

Sergeant Tania Van Ooyen from Wellington District takes people through a few simple crime prevention tips that can make the difference between burglars seeing a house as viable target or not.

Acting National Manager Community Policing Carey Griffiths said the clip is the first in a series of crime prevention clips that Police hope to complete and have on their website over the next few months.

"It's another way of getting crime prevention messages out to the public. The videos will all be very short, easy to understand and remind people about the basic things you can do to keep yourself and your property safe."
