Southern District Commander, Superintendent George Fraser |
We are the Southern District Police, spanning from Oamaru in the North through to Stewart Island in the far South of the South Island.
We also provide round-the-clock police coverage in the tourist/holiday areas of Central Otago, Queenstown, Wanaka, Fiordland and the lakes of the McKenzie Basin in the Otago/Southland hinterland.
Not surprisingly, our Police District with its headquarters in Dunedin, covers the largest geographical area of any of the 12 districts in New Zealand.
What you'll find here
We've provided information on who our managers are in each locality, city and town; how to obtain public information on issues such as police recruitment and firearms licensing; our latest road policing campaigns; unsolved crimes or crime prevention issues. District news releases are also posted here for the benefit of the general public and the media.
Our Goals - Safe Homes and Safe Streets
Our key goals are directed at making "safer communities together". These include the objectives of reducing:
- all forms of violence, which includes family violence
- the numbers killed and injured in road crashes
- theft of and from cars and burglary.
We need the community along side for us to achieve these goals.
