Wellington Police District
Hello, Kia Ora.
Welcome to our website.
The Wellington Police District covers 813,005 hectares and 497 kilometres of coastline, encompassing the southern portion of New Zealand's North Island. Geographically, our district's northern boundary is Peka Peka, just north of Waikanae on Kapiti Coast, and spreads east across the Tararua Ranges to the Wairarapa. Mt Bruce is our northern most point and we stretch south from the Wairarapa, to the Hutt Valley, the Porirua Basin and Wellington city.
The remote Chatham Islands, 467 nautical miles east of the mainland, is also part of the Wellington Police District. One constable is stationed there.
We have 768 sworn police officers and 164 civilian or nonsworn staff working in our district.
Organisationally, our District has its headquarters in Wellington, and has five distinct Areas each headed by an Inspector as its commander. The Areas are Wellington City, Kapiti Mana, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and Wairarapa.
