Request a Traffic Crash Report (TCR)

Section 211 of the Land Transport Act 1998, enables any person to make a request for Traffic Crash Reports held by New Zealand Police. Provision of the TCR is subject to any applicable withholding grounds under the Official Information Act 1982 or the Privacy Act.

If your request is about a traffic crash you were involved in, or you are an authorised agent for a person involved (e.g. an insurance company) your request is subject to provisions outlined in the Privacy Act.

If your property was damaged or you were involved personally in a crash, however you don’t believe Police are aware, please contact your nearest Police station to ensure that your details are added to the relevant traffic crash report and your interest in the case recorded. Any subsequent request for a copy of the TCR can then be made under the Privacy Act.

If your request is for a TCR that you have no direct involvement in, your request is subject to release provisions outlined in the Official Information Act 1982.
