Roll up, roll up to the new station

New Zealand's newest Police station was opened at Rolleston, near Christchurch, yesterday [Thursday 6 September] by Police Minister, Hon. Anne Tolley.
 
The new station, built at a cost of $1.6 million, will house local Rolleston officers, and will also be the administrative base for the Selwyn sub-area - currently operating out of Lincoln and Hornby stations. Highway Patrol officers are also expected to operate from the station.
 
The station has been designed with sufficient space to allow for future expansion in line with the expected growth of the Selwyn District - one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.
 
Opening the station, Mrs Tolley said the new facility would put Police "front and centre" at the heart of Rolleston township and Selwyn District. "And being part of the community is very much what Prevention First is all about."
 
District Commander, Superintendent Gary Knowles, said he was delighted the project had come in ahead of schedule and on budget. "Police can be proud of this new station," he said.  "Rural policing brings with it some unique challenges, and this facility is a big step forward in supporting our staff and our community."
