Statement from Assistant Commissioner Peter Marshall
As I have previously indicated, the long established Police practice is to comply with posted speed limits, unless life or property are at risk and officers decide travelling in excess of the limits is vital.
The policy and practice issues pertaining to the events of last Saturday will be investigated as part of the current inquiry.
I don’t intend prejudicing the inquiry by commenting with further details.
There is no set timeline for the investigation although Inspector Cliff will proceed as expeditiously as possible to assemble all the relevant information. I am not prepared to determine how long this will take.
