Porirua Police say Titahi Bay homicide victim Susanna Lemina Brown died from stab wounds.
Detective Inspector Rod Drew, head of the Operation Beach homicide investigation, says a post mortem was completed in Wellington this afternoon.
"I’m unable to go into specific details apart from confirming that Susanna was stabbed," he says.
The 33-year-old mother of five’s body has been released tonight so she can be returned to her family.
More than 20 police staff have spent the day on background inquiries which have extended to door knocking on homes around the crime scene at the northern end of Titahi Bay beach, and the Takapuwahia Drive, Elsdon, area where Susanna lived.
"An arrest does not signal the end of our investigation," Detective Inspector Drew says. "We have a lot of detailed work to do, including forensic analysis of the car, a light gold Mazda Familia."
Detective Inspector Drew says helpful information is coming from people who were in the Titahi Bay area mid morning yesterday, and from those who knew Susanna or the man arrested.
People who have information which would help the inquiry are asked to call Porirua Police on telephone 238 1400.
