1 min read

Around 9.10pm last night (Thursday, 23 July) the Challenge Service Station, also known as Elders Taylors Ltd, General Merchant, in Hunterville, was the subject of a burglary.

Two shots from a firearm were fired through the windows at the property and the front door was damaged. No one was in the building at the time and nothing was stolen.

A 23-year-old man from Feilding was apprehended by police a short time later in a vehicle just north of Hunterville.

The man is appearing in Wanganui District Court this afternoon charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm in a public place, the commission of a crime with a firearm, aggravated burglary and theft. The theft relates to the theft of petrol from a service station in Feilding earlier in the evening.

Wanganui Police are appealing for any sightings of a 1988 grey/silver coloured Ford Laser hatchback, travelling between Feilding and Hunterville during the evening of Thursday, 23 July 2009.

Anyone with information that may assist this investigation can contact Detective Sergeant Varnia Allan at Wanganui Police Station on 06 349 0600.
