Emergency Services Open Day in Christchurch

1 min read

Abseiling down buildings, an armed offender's incident, try wearing a police uniform - it's all happened today at Christchurch Emergency Services Open day.

It's hard to calculate how many people have attended today as the site is spread through the police yards at Christchurch Central Police and Hereford Street is closed to traffic but full of fire engines, police cars, motor bikes and prison vans, plus fitness courses- and many, many people looking at displays and trying everything out. There goes a gun shot! Must be a police dog out there catching offenders! The dogs are all on display and wandering through the crowds.

Everyone lifts their head to see the firemen coming down from the top of the building. And cheer the children running to see how fast the speed laser gun clocks them at! 21 km/hr was the highest speed by 3pm. St John has handed out litres of sun cream while people take the opportunity to see how the emergency services in town work and what they do.

A wing of the cell block is open to people to walk through and gold coin donations today go to Victim Support and DARE.

The hosts, Christchurch Police, Fire and St John are delighted with the positive, supportive response from the public and thank all who came to visit today.
