Ambulance and Police were called to a house in Dublin Street, Dannevirke around 1.10am yesterday morning (Sunday, 16 May) following a 111 call reporting at stabbing.

On arrival Police found that a man had been stabbed in the abdomen following a domestic-related altercation between two male family members living at the address.

The victim, aged 22, was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition this morning is described by the hospital as satisfactory.

A man aged 25 years was arrested at the scene and was initially charged with assault, however it is likely that more serious charges will be laid after Police enquiries are completed.

He will appear today in Palmerston North District Court.
