Police seek help with Tawa aggravated robbery

1 min read

Porirua CIB are trying to find a group of young people involved in the aggravated robbery of a woman in the Tawa shopping area early on Saturday morning.

Two of the group, a young man and a young woman, then went to the victim's aid, returned her purse and wallet and walked her to Woolworth's supermarket where she was able to telephone police.

Detective Belinda Bull, Porirua CIB, says the 27-year-old woman was walking towards Porirua, on the eastern side of Main Road, Tawa, about 12.30am on Saturday, 1 July, when she was approached by a group of five to seven teenagers.

They walked a short distance together before the woman was dragged down a driveway at the northern end of the shops, assaulted and robbed. She's bruised and her cellphone and cash are still missing.

"We'd like to hear from anyone who saw the aggravated robbery, or who saw the group of people hanging around the Tawa shopping area between midnight and 12.30am," Detective Bull says.

"We'd also like to hear from the two people who helped the victim, returned some of her possessions, and walked her to the supermarket where she could call for help."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Porirua CIB or the Intel Section at Porirua Police on telephone: 238 1400.
