Wellington Police have commenced an investigation after receiving information that a body had been buried yesterday at a Wellington address.

Information received by the police indicates that it is the body of a newborn.

Two persons have been charged with concealing a body and will appear in the Wellington District Court this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Donna HOWARD of Wellington CIB says the body is that of a male newborn.

"The occupants of an address in Hawtrey Terrace, Churton Park contacted police last night and as a result of their information an investigation has been commenced."

"Officers will complete a scene examination at the address today and exhume the body. Once a post-mortem examination is completed, Police will be able to determine whether the death is suspicious or if it should be referred to the Coroner."

No further comment will be made by Police until the post-mortem is completed.
