1 min read

One man has been arrested and another is in Waikato Hospital with stab wounds to the chest area after a domestic related incident near Taumarunui last night.

Sergeant Grant Alabaster, Taumarunui Police, said a 41-year-old man is this morning in a stable condition at Waikato Hospital. He was initially treated by ambulance officers and taken to Taumarunui Hospital where he was stabilised and then airlifted to Waikato Hospital.

Police have charged a 36-year-old man with assault and he is likely to appear in the Taumarunui District Court later today.

Sergeant Alabaster said a handful of people who were known to each other were at the rural property on the Taumarunui-Ngapuke Road when an argument took place. Police and ambulance officers were alerted at 9.52pm.

Police inquiries into what happened are continuing.
