Security Van Robbery at Lynmall Shopping Centre

1 min read

Henderson Police say the public can play an essential role in assisting them with information on two vehicles seen in the Lynmall Shopping Centre area prior to the armed robbery of a security van yesterday.

Police say that at 4.51pm on Monday 9 October 2006 two men, one of whom was armed with a shotgun held up the van's two security guards.

Shots were fired during the robbery but no one was injured. An undisclosed amount of money has been taken. There were a large number of people in the vicinity at the time and police are seeking further witnesses to this incident.

Officer in Charge Detective Senior Sergeant John Sutton says the offenders left the scene in a stolen, white / silver coloured Mitsubishi Pajero. This vehicle was later located on fire at Craig Avon Park in New Lynn.

'A second vehicle also believed to be involved was located at the corner of St Andrews Road and Rowan Court in Three Kings about an hour after the robbery. This Nissan vehicle was also on fire. The vehicle was earlier reported stolen.'

"Members of the public may have seen these vehicles being set on fire and also persons departing both scenes at New Lynn and Three Kings," he said.

"We are certain members of the public will have seen these two vehicles in the area of the shopping centre or in a nearby locality prior to the robbery. We want to hear of any sightings of both the Pajero and the Nissan late yesterday afternoon at around 4.00-4.45pm."

"Enquiries today will centre on gaining further information from witnesses, and scene and forensic examinations. The public can contact the Henderson CIB direct on Phone 839 0600, if they have any knowledge of this armed robbery," Mr. Sutton said.
