Body discovered near Huntly

Waikato police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the finding of a body in vegetation near a railway line in Huntly today.

Detective Inspector Chris Page, Waikato CIB, said the body of a man was discovered in vegetation in vacant land off Shaw Street, near a railway line servicing coal deliveries to the power station.

Police found the body early this afternoon after responding to information from a member of the public.

“Initial indications are that the body has been there for some time,” Detective Inspector Page said. “We have secured the scene and are beginning an intensive inquiry, including forensic analysis.”

Police are working as quickly as possible to identify the man.

The investigation is in its early stage. No further information is available at this time.
