Police are urging motorists to take it easy on the roads in and around the region this Labour Weekend.
Wellington District Road Policing Manager Inspector Peter Baird says Police are aiming for a fatality-free holiday weekend on the roads next week.
"Police will be out in force right throughout the Wellington district, with the intent to moderate speed and careless driving, through high visibility, and enforcement if needed."
Inspector Baird says, "Patience is needed by drivers heading out of the Wellington district next weekend, particularly as traffic will be congested around the Whenua Tapu/Pukerua Bay areas and again south of Waikanae, likewise on Labour Day (Monday 24 October 2011) when travellers return home.
"It's important to remember that your holiday starts the moment you leave home, and your journey needs to be factored into your holiday, so please be prepared for some disruption."
The official holiday period for Labour Weekend for 2011 will begin at 4pm on Friday 21 October and ends at 6am on Tuesday 25th October.
