Foxton Race Course Fires Arrest

1 min read

Police have arrested a man in connection with a series of five fires that have occurred at the Foxton Race course over the last month.

Yesterday, a 35 year old was arrested and charged with five counts of arson. He will appear in the Levin District Court later today.

Acting Detective Sergeant Marianne Whitfield said police and emergency services were called to the race course about 1am yesterday, Sunday 18 December, to a fire that raged through the stable block.

Police and Fire investigators examining the scene have confirmed that this latest fire was suspicious, she said.

The other four fires have caused serious damage to one of the grandstands, two other stable blocks and minor damage to an implement shed.

Acting Detective Sergeant Whitfield said: “Although an arrest has been made we would still like anyone with any information about these fires to come contact us. Your information is still valuable to us.”

Anyone with information can contact Levin CIB on 06 366 0500 or you can provide information anonymously to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.

Police are unable to comment further on the arrest as this is now a court matter.
