US trampers located

1 min read

American students Alec Brown and Erica Klintworth, who sparked a search and rescue operation today in the Arthur’s Pass area, have been located and are currently being interviewed at Greymouth Police Station.

West Coast Search and Rescue Co-ordinator Sergeant Sean Judd said the pair had made some good decisions, such as not crossing a river, however their preparedness and attention to the weather forecast was lax. He said they had also failed to leave written intentions.

The area they were in has had heavy snow and sub--zero temperatures for several days and their friends reported them missing on Saturday night, after they failed to return on Wednesday as expected.
