1 min read

A 27 year old man will appear in the North Shore District Court tomorrow on serious charges after an incident in Birkenhead this afternoon.

North Shore Police say that about 2.00pm Monday 23 July 2007 they engaged in the pursuit of a man whom they identified as an alleged offender who was wanted on warrant for aggravated robbery and other serious offences.

The pursuit involved the Police Eagle helicopter, Police dogs, and several North Shore police patrols. A police vehicle was one of several damaged during the incident.

Eagle tracked the alleged offender from the air after he dumped his Nissan Skyline in Onewa Road and ran through several nearby properties on foot. A member of the North Shore CIB eventually tackled the wanted man and arrested him.

Police are appealing to members of the public who were in the Birkenhead area this afternoon and witnessed the incident to contact the North Shore CIB direct on telephone 488 6200 as soon as possible.

Police say an internal review of the pursuit is already underway.
