Home invasion in Levin leaves family traumatised

1 min read

Levin Police are urgently seeking information from the public after a home invasion in the town this morning left a family traumatised.

Acting Senior Sergeant Sarn Paroli, of Levin Police, said that at about 6.45am today, two balaclava wearing men, one carrying a firearm, forced their way into a Tainui Street house and confronted the occupants.

There was a violent struggle inside the house which resulted in one of the male victims being taken to Palmerston North Hospital with an arm injury. A younger man at the house was bruised and all three victims were shaken up by their ordeal.

No shots were fired, and the two men fled empty handed, although still with the firearm, through a vacant piece of land at the back of the house and onto SH57.

The victims ran and alerted a neighbour who called police.

It is thought that the offenders were seeking money. The two men, who were wearing gloves as well as balaclavas, are not believed to be known to the victims.

“Descriptions of the offenders are being worked through with the victims, but they are naturally distressed and it will take a little bit of time to get some more details.

“It’s possible that the offenders left in a vehicle. We’re appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the property or in the general area including SH57 this morning to let police know.”

If people have information please call Levin Police on 06 366 0500.
