Man Dies in Accident on Milford Road

At about 12.50pm today a worker for a contract company was killed while working on slip clearing near Monkey Creek on the Milford Road (State Highway 94).

The accident is understood to have involved equipment being used on site at the time, however the exact details of the incident have not yet been established.

Medical assistance in the form of an air ambulance from Te Anau was dispatched to the scene immediately. However despite the best efforts of all those on site, the worker was unable to be revived.

Two other workers also received minor injuries in the incident and were treated at the scene.

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) are currently enroute to investigate the incident along with a safety representative of the contract company. Police will also be investigating on behalf of the coroner.

Details of the man who died have not yet been released as police are still in the process of contacting next of kin.

Police do not anticipate being able to release information relating to the man's name or age until tomorrow.
