1 min read

Wairarapa Police have been progressing their investigation after a serious assault over the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Brent Murray from the Wairarapa CIB said "Police would like to thank the Martinborough community for their assistance into the incident resulting in a man being admitted to Wellington Hospital”.

A 25-year-old Martinborough man has been charged with common assault, pending further charges, and is now remanded in Police custody. He will next appear in the Masterton District Court on Monday 5 November 2012.

The further charges being considered include serious charges for the assault.

Common assault charges are also being considered for assaults on some of the teenagers at the Broadway Street address.

“Police would like to reiterate that there was not a party at the Broadway Street address and this was a group of teenagers who had met to socialise on a Saturday night,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Murray.

“The man who has been hospitalised was called to the address at the request of family members of the teenage occupants and was not called in any official role.

“Police are continuing to investigate all aspects of the incident. As the matter is now before the Courts, no further comment on the circumstances of the incident will be made,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Murray.
