Police make arrests after two robberies in Kilbirnie this afternoon

Wellington Police have arrested three men after a robbery in Kilbirnie this afternoon.

Detective Sergeant Corey Watts of the Wellington CIB says "At around 1.00pm this afternoon a lone 20-year-old male has robbed a Bay Road store at knife point.

"The store assistant has been left very distraught after the incident.

"Police were able to cordon off the area and locate the offender who has now been charged with aggravated robbery.

"Two other males in their 20s have also been charged with being accessories after the fact", says Detective Sergeant Watts.

All three men will appear in Wellington District Court tomorrow.

In an unrelated incident, a store attendant has been attacked in an attempted robbery also in Bay Road, Kilbirnie.

Detective Sergeant Sam Mercer says "At around 3.00pm another man has suffered a sustained attack.

"During the incident the victim has defended himself which has resulted in an injury to the offender which has left him bleeding.

"Police are following strong lines of inquiry and are appealing for any witnesses who might have seen the offender fleeing the area through the nearby Countdown supermarket car park to come forward", says Detective Sergeant Mercer.
