Operation Hamilton, the homicide team investigating the death of Augustine Borrell early on Sunday morning, has identified and spoken with the occupants of the Mercedes Benz car seen in Hamilton Rd shortly before Augustine was stabbed.
Officer in charge of the operation, Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Breach, says it turns out there were three male Caucasian occupants in the car and that Police have spoken with two of them. The vehicle belongs to a Herne Bay resident and was not stolen.
"The young men associated with the Mercedes Benz contacted Police last night and we're satisfied they were not involved in any criminal behaviour on or around Hamilton Rd on Saturday night and Sunday morning," Mr Breach said.
"The public response to Police appeals for information about events leading up to and following Augustine's murder has been outstanding and we're doing a lot or work following up on information received.
"We're also very aware of the information and speculation posted on the Bebo website and are looking very closely at that."
Police now understand up to 100 people attended the Hamilton Rd party that Augustine was at before he was killed on the road after leaving it.
Images of two young men Police want to identify and make contact with have been released today.
"These images were captured on the surveillance footage at the BP service station across the road," Mr Breach said. "So far we haven't been able to identify these young men and it may be that they have absolutely nothing to offer the investigation in terms of information.
"However, we'd like to be able to identify them, even if it's just to eliminate them from the inquiry."
